Scottish Events and Community Group

The Scottish Events and Community special interest group supports community and events fundraisers across Scotland, offering events, training and peer networking to strengthen community and events fundraising practice across the nation.

We provide a forum for learning, discussion and networking for fundraisers from charities of all sizes, and all corners of Scotland, with an interest in community and events fundraising, and all of the other wonderful things that often feed into these income streams (e.g. young people and schools fundraising, AI in fundraising, working with corporate fundraisers and so on).

We aim to establish and share best practice in community and events fundraising and provide an opportunity for you to meet and network with others in the industry. We organise sessions four times a year (online, hybrid or in-person) to discuss varying issues and also to benchmark activity. 

We welcome members from any organisation interested in raising money within these areas of fundraising (or anyone working in other areas who would like to learn more) and encourage those with little or no experience to attend, as well as those who have been working in community and events fundraising for some time.

Meet the committee

Lexy Graham

Lexy grew up fundraising throughout school and university, both organising and taking part in various challenge events, markets, afternoon teas, gala dinners and so on. Initially studying for a medical degree, she moved to Robert Gordon University to study Events Management and graduated in 2024 with first class honours. After a short time planning weddings for a large national hotel chain, she bagged her first professional fundraising job as the events and community fundraising officer at Worldwide Cancer Research (mainly focusing on their challenge event portfolio). In July 2026, she moved to the National Trust for Scotland where she is currently the Special Events Fundraising Executive.

She joined the SIG in March 2025 as a general member, taking on Chair in Feb 2026. She is also on the Scottish Fundraising Conference and Awards Committee, assisting with planning the awards gala dinner, website development and designing the conference and awards brochures.

When she’s not planning events or on one of many side quests, you can find Lexy doing something outdoorsy (surfing, munro bagging, paddleboarding) usually with her cockapoo, Poppy, in tow. She also loves to cook, do anything creative, and loves a bit of yoga and pilates.
Kali Thompson

Kali is new to the fundraising sector and has become a community and events fundraiser. She started out in the third sector as a community support worker and upon moving to Scotland became a dementia care practitioner. After spending some time working in academia as a research assistant, she moved into fundraising as a way of combining the research skills she developed with her love for social care and engaging with people and communities.

Outside of work, she enjoys going to rugby games and is a new dog mom so spends a lot of her time as activity co-ordinator for her wee sausage dog.
Eve Meadows

Eve first discovered her passion for fundraising while volunteering at a Dundee-based charity during her Psychology degree. She loved connecting with the local community and found great satisfaction in organising multiple successful fundraising events. After building further experience as a volunteer fundraiser with Aberdeen-based charity MISS, Eve transitioned into her professional career. She is now a proud Community Fundraising Officer (North) at Scottish Huntington’s Association, an organisation she loves being a part of and representing.

Outside of work, Eve stays active through water polo, hillwalking, and yoga or pilates. She also enjoys a board game night and cooking tasty meals for others.
David Loumgair

David has worked in a diverse range of fundraising roles for over a decade. He founded a charitable organisation which was steadily grown into a national entity. After some time working with established organisations to strategically grow their community engagement, event portfolios and income generation, David joined the third sector and now works with SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health) as their North Fundraising Lead.

David loves nothing more than a good restoration project, is often found at the cinema, and can be easily tempted by chocolate biscuits.
Angela Allison

Angela is the Senior Supporter Care Executive at Worldwide Cancer Research, an Edinburgh-based charity that funds discover cancer research all over the world. She has worked in the charity sector for seven years in a Supporter Care and Fundraising role. Before moving into the third sector, she spent eight years working in hospitality overseas in France and Greece. Wanting to make a difference and contribute to meaningful causes, Angela transitioned into the charity sector where she now supports supporters and fundraising activity with care and dedication. Outside of work, Angela is a big football fan and a busy parent to three energetic children, who certainly keep life lively and full of fun.
Charlotte Steel

Charlotte is a Community and Events Fundraiser at Richmond’s Hope. She fell into fundraising after taking part in a charity trek a few years ago in memory of a loved one. Listening to the inspiring work of another fundraiser, also taking part in aid of their charity, made her realise fundraising something she wanted to be part of.

At the time, she was self-employed, running a coffee trailer business and attending events and festivals. Making the move into fundraising has been, in her words, one of the best decisions she's made.

She's worked in community fundraising for two and a half years and absolutely adores what she does. She is currently completing her CIOF diploma and is passionate about supporting and developing the fundraising profession.
Claire Bain

Claire is the Community Fundraising Officer for the North East at Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) since joining in 2024.  Driven by a passion for supporting communities and lifesaving causes, her fundraising journey initially began as a hobby before developing into a professional career of over 8 years.  As well as being responsible for community fundraising activity and managing volunteers in her region, she leads on the Skyward Challenge project. Combining her design skills, she enjoys delivering innovative fundraising initiatives that support the essential work of the charity across Scotland.

Fundraising in North East Scotland

This session will focus on Fundraising in North East Scotland. The session will include opportunities for audience interaction and discussion, breakout chats, and time for a Q&A. Attendees should expect practical detail, real-life examples, and plenty of opportunities for sharing ideas and having meaningful discussions together.
