Demonstrating impact is crucial for fundraising – and data is the evidence that you can use. Visual presentations of data are proven to be more persuasive, engaging and effective than narrative text or tables of numbers.

Standard Content

This course focuses on a science-led approach to presenting data to communicate insights and drive action. It will lead you through a tried and tested process for creating data-led communications – from planning, through selecting the right type of chart or infographic, to applying intelligent design techniques. You will learn to create powerful visuals for a range of different audiences and formats, regardless of the software you have access to.

A thorough and enlightening course with a clear method of thinking about your audience first, what they need to know and then making the data work. I used to do all my visuals within Excel but didn't know about Flourish and how easy it is to use.

Who should attend?

Any fundraising professional who needs to present data – whether in donor communications, slide decks, reports or digital media. You don't need to have prior knowledge of either data analysis or design.

About your Trainer

Alan Rutter

Alan is the founder of Fire Plus Algebra, and a specialist in data visualisation. With a background in journalism, he runs workshops for learning organisations General Assembly and Jolt, and delivers in-house training for clients including the Arts Council, the Health Foundation, DKMS, the BBC, the Department of Health, the Legal Aid Agency and numerous central and local government departments in the UK. He regularly speaks about data visualisation at events including the Open Data Science Conference and the Øredev developer conference. He previously worked for publishing brands including the Guardian, Time Out, Wired, GQ, Vanity Fair and Vogue
