Ahead of the General Election in 2024, the proposed Data Protection Bill, which set out to reduce red-tape and some of the compliance burdens of GDPR, was scrapped in the pre-election wash-up. 

Although the move was disappointing for charities, the new government soon set about drafting their own version of this Bill – re-named the Data (Use and Access) Bill, which was presented to the House of Lords in October 2024.
