Gordon brings over 20 years of experience in Higher Education, having held a range of senior advancement positions. He joins Philanthropy Company from his role as Director of Advancement at the University of Bath, where he led a major restructuring of the office, secured several of the largest gifts in the institution’s history, and oversaw significant increase in endowment. Prior to Bath, Gordon was Head of Development (Humanities) at the University of Oxford before becoming Director of Development at University College, Oxford (Univ). In these leadership roles, he built and developed high-performing teams during times of change and led complex fundraising initiatives. His expertise in securing transformational gifts from ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWI), trusts, and corporates has earned him a strong reputation in the sector. Gordon has worked closely, directly and indirectly, with many of the UK’s billionaires and some of the world’s wealthiest philanthropists. Gordon began his career at the University of Aberdeen before moving to Durham and Edinburgh, quickly establishing himself as a sector-leading innovator. He has a deep understanding of advancement and academia from both top-down and grassroots perspectives and consistently adopts a data-driven approach to his work. With a background in Geography, Gordon brings a global outlook and a passion for travel, having visited 75 countries. Professionally, he has worked extensively across North America, Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, playing a pivotal role in transformational giving and contributing to the development and review of global volunteer boards.
