Small Shifts, Big Impact: Using AI to Unlock Better Fundraising (Without New Systems)

Small Shifts, Big Impact: Using AI to Unlock Better Fundraising (Without New Systems)

By Fundraise Up

Fundraisers have spent the last decade being told the same thing: fix your systems, clean your data, and integrate your stack before you can truly innovate. But most organisations are still navigating messy data, limited resources, and slow-moving internal processes.

This workshop challenges that assumption. AI is not just another tool to layer into your tech stack. It fundamentally changes how fundraisers can work. It allows teams to extract insight from imperfect data, build and test campaigns faster, and identify missed opportunities without waiting for system changes or additional budget.
Rather than focusing on theory or tools, this session will show how small, practical shifts in how you use AI can unlock immediate impact.

Through real-world examples, you will see how organisations are:
- Identifying overlooked donor segments and revenue opportunities from existing data
- Diagnosing and fixing conversion friction across donation journeys
- Moving from slow planning cycles to rapid testing and iteration

The session includes two practical exercises you can take back and apply immediately, using data and assets you already have.
This is not about replacing your systems or transforming your organisation overnight. It is about working differently with what you already have—and using AI to remove the barriers that have historically slowed fundraising teams down.
If you are looking for realistic, low-effort ways to improve performance in a challenging environment, this session will give you clear, actionable starting points.
The Workshop will be delivered by Corey Mustard, Senior Solutions Consultant, Fundraise Up.

The workshop will take place on 4 June 10.45 - 11.30
DIY Challenges: Your Front Door to the Next Generation of Donors

DIY Challenges: Your Front Door to the Next Generation of Donors

By Nuclavis

DIY Challenges are one of the most effective ways charities can acquire new supporters and build a long-term donor pipeline. In this session, we’ll explore how participation-based fundraising meets evolving donor expectations by offering flexible, purpose-driven experiences that foster connection and community.

Learn why DIY works, how to launch low-cost, scalable challenges, and how to convert participants into engaged fundraisers and future donors. We’ll also cover the critical role of a mobile-first experience, activity tracking, and personalised messaging to drive engagement, fundraising performance, and retention—turning a simple challenge into a powerful growth engine for your organisation.

The Workshop will be delivered by Kathy Kempff, Founder and CEO

Kathy Kempff is the Founder and CEO of Nuclavis, a mobile-first technology company supporting nonprofits in growing participation and fundraising through peer-to-peer (P2P) programmes. With over 25 years’ experience in the sector, Kathy has worked closely with organisations across the U.S., Canada, and Europe to develop practical, data-informed approaches to engaging supporters and building long-term donor relationships. She began her career at Blackbaud’s Convio, where she was part of the early evolution of digital fundraising. Today, her work focuses on helping organisations adapt to changing donor behaviours through mobile, messaging, and more accessible entry points like DIY and challenge-based fundraising.
Kathy is also the Founder of Moja Tu, a nonprofit supporting educational sponsorships and computer literacy programmes in Kenya—an experience that continues to shape her perspective on community, stewardship, and long-term impact.

The workshop will take place on 4 June 12.00 - 12.45
Finding the Next Generation of Supporters Through Merchandise

Finding the Next Generation of Supporters Through Merchandise

By Teemill

Traditional fundraising is becoming increasingly competitive, particularly when it comes to engaging younger audiences and finding the next generation of supporters. This workshop explores how charities are using merchandise not just to raise income, but to build identity, community and awareness through products people genuinely want to wear and share.
Using real-world campaign examples, Richard will explore what separates high-performing charity merchandise from products that never gain traction, why some campaigns spread organically online, and how charities can use merchandise to reach supporters beyond traditional fundraising audiences.
The session will also include an interactive breakout where attendees can explore ideas for their own upcoming campaigns, messaging and ambassador opportunities.

The Workshop will be delivered by Richard Barnes.

Richard leads on Charity Partnerships at Teemill, the platform that’s powered some of the world’s most successful charity merchandise campaigns, including Choose Love and Thank You NHS. Teemill also supports organisations including Greenpeace, RSPB, Guide Dogs and Mental Health UK, helping charities use merchandise to generate income, build awareness and reach new audiences.
Richard specialises in helping charities explore how merchandise can become a tool for community building, storytelling and audience growth by helping them create products people genuinely want to wear and share.

The workshop will take place on 4 June 14:45 - 15:30
Stop Being Ghosted: How to use WhatsApp to reach the 60% of Supporters Ignoring Your Emails

Stop Being Ghosted: How to use WhatsApp to reach the 60% of Supporters Ignoring Your Emails

By Social Sync

As economic pressures mount and inbox competition intensifies, charities are hitting a ceiling where sixty percent of emails remain unopened. Many organisations have turned to WhatsApp groups to bridge this gap, yet these often introduce significant safeguarding and GDPR liabilities. This session explores how leading organisations like MND Association, Target Ovarian Cancer and Acorns Children's Hospice are bypassing the noise to meet supporters exactly where they live.

We will move beyond the theory of mobile messaging to reveal the practical frameworks that have delivered a 36% uplift in fundraising revenue. You will learn how to automate personal, 1-1 journeys that protect supporter data while respecting staff capacity and limited budgets. Join us to discover how your charity can innovate safely and maintain the human touch at scale without increasing headcount.

The Workshop will be delivered by Ben Collins, Social Sync, COO and Alice Sedgwick, Target Ovarian Cancer, Digital Fundraising Manager

Ben Collins: Ben brings over a decade of firsthand experience from mass fundraising streams in the charity sector. His time in charities led to a singular frustration. Fragmented data and clunky technology constantly got in the way of delivering the supporter journeys he always wanted.

Now the Chief Operating Officer of Social Sync, he leverages technology to empower charities to engage better with their supporters and increase lifetime value. For this session, Ben is focused on how organisations can transition from high risk WhatsApp groups to secure 1-1 stewardship that protects donor data while driving a 36% revenue uplift.

He is passionate about supporting charities to deliver the sustained loyalty and fundraising impact that their missions deserve, especially as they navigate the increasing economic pressures of the current landscape.

Alice Sedgwick: With over seven years of experience in fundraising and marketing, Alice is driven by finding and implementing technological innovations that improve supporter experience while maximising internal efficiency.

She began her career at Target Ovarian Cancer in the community fundraising team, delivering high-quality stewardship to hundreds of supporters each year. Now, as Digital Fundraising Manager, she works to provide technological solutions to streamline processes and save valuable staff time, while maintaining the same warm, compassionate and personalised supporter experience.

Since 2023, alongside the wider fundraising team, Alice has been working closely with Social Sync to develop and launch a portfolio of innovative and tailored fundraising campaigns, driving significant increases in income and engagement for the charity.

The workshop will take place on 4 June 16:00 - 16:45
