Attending Fundraising Convention for the first time can feel both exciting and overwhelming. Harriet Pinder, Convention Board member, shares five practical tips to help charity professionals and fundraisers make the most of the event. From networking with sector leaders and exploring the latest fundraising tools to using wellbeing spaces and connecting with coaches to support your career development.

1. Network like a pro:

Every connection you make, whether a 5-minute speed networking conversation or an invaluable intro to a potential mentor will expand outreach and help build your contacts in the sector.  “Small Shifts, Big Impact” is the mantra for this year’s Convention and this is THE national fundraising event of the year, where all sector main players are in attendance.

2. Talk to Staff:

Take time to speak to the staff attending stands between sessions. Their up-to-date knowledge on the latest tech and tools to make your role more efficient is inspiring.

3. Use the wellbeing spaces and breathtaking location:

Take advantage of the spaces provided to ensure you don’t feel overwhelmed and plan your Convention days effectively While you are attending on a work mission ensure that you schedule in sessions that spark your interest, inspire you and reinvigorate your passion for fundraising.

4. Ask our Volunteers:

If you need assistance, ask our amazing volunteers and use the buddy systems on offer so that you can navigate your days at Convention with ease.  We want everyone to enjoy their days at CIOF Convention 2026 and make sure that everyone feels welcome and included.

5. Make use of the inspiring coaches:

They are available onsite to help enhance your sector trajectory and find areas where a small shift in your mindset can make a big impact on your career Take this opportunity to speak to a professional and evaluate your work orientated goals to maximise your impact.
