Founder and Chair of the Black Heroes Foundation
Dr Joyce Fraser OBE, Hon DEd, MBA(Henley), FRSA, FCIPD is the Founder and Chair of the Black Heroes Foundation which she registered in October 2016, in honour of her late husband Flip Fraser and to preserve the legacy of his work.
Black Heroes Foundation uses the Arts to bring joy telling the stories of Black Heroes, going into communities, working with schools, youth and Windrush elders. Joyce writes, produces, and curates exhibitions for the Black Heroes Foundation, and this work has been at Battersea Arts Centre, Canada Water Theatre, Tate Modern and many other spaces. Productions include the Story of Sam King MBE, The Story of John Archer and The Story of Claudia Jones.
Joyce lectures for the Open University Business School and is also on the Board of Trustee for the Chartered Institute of Fundraising and Directory of Social Change.
In October 2018, the Prime Minister honoured Joyce with the 1024th Point of Light Award for her inspiring voluntary work with the Black Heroes Foundation. In January 2023 Joyce was awarded an O.B.E. for services to the Promotion of Black History and Heritage, and in October 2023, an honorary doctorate from University of Greenwich.
