Alder Hey Children's Charity
In 2023/24, Alder Hey Children’s Charity raised £8.35 million, driving transformative change in children’s healthcare through innovative fundraising and specialised projects.
Key highlights include surpassing our £3 million target for the Surgical Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the UK's first Surgical Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, offering 22 cots and 18 family rooms, and raising nearly £200,000 for the MediCinema, providing young patients with the magic of the movies during hospital stays.
We’ve also funded innovative studies that support Alder Hey’s vision of preventative rather than reactive healthcare, ensuring it remains a pioneering organisation in paediatric healthcare.
By leveraging emotive storytelling, advanced technology, and strategic partnerships, we have achieved exceptional outcomes, enhancing care for 450,000 children and young people annually.
Our resilient community, coupled with a forward-thinking, innovative approach, ensures sustainable growth and empowers us to continue creating a brighter, healthier future for children, young people and their families.

Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity
In April 2021 and emerging out of the pandemic GOSH charity launched a fundraising strategy which set out an ambitious pathway to grow our sustainable net income.
The need to raise £300m for a Children’s Cancer Centre saw the launch of the biggest appeal in the charity’s history, the ‘Build it. Beat it’ appeal.
In just three years we made significant progress, and our net income has exceeded our projections by £25 million overall, all whilst investing to grow our fundraising team and activities, and securing pledges that enabled us to reach the halfway mark of £150 million for our appeal in October 2023.
In 2023/24 our charity’s income hit £131.2 million, the highest in our history. This was supported by an incredible fundraising income of £117.6 million, up 68% from £70 million in 2021/22. Of this £82 million was net income, compared to £50 million in 2020/21.
These incredible results were driven by a phenomenal level of teamwork, ambition and collaboration.
The judges said: "We were impressed at the planning, focus and exceptional results. This was a great application with lots of evidence of income growth vs impact, staff and donor engagement demonstrated throughout the nomination. It was clear the results could only have been achieved by the different teams working closely together."
