Our call to put generosity at the heart of the next government

LET’S WORK TOGETHER TO INSPIRE EVEN MORE CHARITABLE GIVING

The UK is a generous country inspired by excellent fundraising.

Giving to charities is one of the yardsticks we use to judge our generosity as a country. Every year, billions of pounds is given by people who care passionately about a cause and want to make a difference either here or abroad. That generosity funds the vital work UK charities undertake to make the world a better place.

At the Chartered Institute of Fundraising we are hugely proud of the dedication and expertise charities and fundraisers demonstrate every day to encourage and nurture that support. But we also know that there is potential for so much more, and that with the right partnership between charities and the next Government we can become an even more generous society for the benefit of all of those who benefit from our work.

THE NEXT GOVERNMENT IS A VITAL PARTNER FOR FUNDRAISING CHARITIES

That’s why we are calling on the next Government to work with us to create the right environment for charitable fundraising and philanthropic giving to thrive.

The Government that is formed after the 2019 election will face an unprecedented set of challenges and opportunities. The contribution that the charity sector can make to this cannot be underestimated, but does need to be supported through Government action to create a more positive framework that can take the generosity of people around the country to the next level.

We believe that part of this new partnership approach the Government should prioritise:

EVERY MP TO BE A FUNDRAISING CHAMPION

Alongside Government action, we know that every MP sees every day the positive impact of the work of charities in their own constituency. This work is only possible as a result of excellent fundraising.

But the value that fundraising activities bring to local communities is so much more than the amount of money raised. It connects people to causes, makes people healthier and happier, brings people together and inspires positive social action.

On that basis, we want every Member of Parliament to commit to be a fundraising champion in their constituency, and to promote and encourage the benefits of charitable giving.
