Carol Akiwumi is a Social Entrepreneur, a Consultant and Trainer with a passion for Stewardship, Leadership and Financial Sustainability.
Carol is the Founder and CEO of Money4You, a social enterprise that empowers individuals and organisations with financial education and entrepreneurial skills.
Carol is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising and a Trustee of the Chartered Institute. She is the former Chair of the Chartered Institute's Black Fundraisers UK and works with a variety of grant makers to support Black, Asian, Multi-Ethnic and Refugee Groups and Fundraisers.
A regular contributor to conferences and Chartered Institute courses, she also works with national and international agencies of different sizes to create and deliver resource mobilisation/capacity building programmes for their staff and volunteers.
Carol was appointed Chair of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee in June 2019.
Paul joined the British Red Cross in July as its new Chief Supporter Officer. Before that he was Executive Director of Fundraising and Engagement at the MS Society. He has also held Director of Fundraising roles at Diabetes UK and NSPCC. Paul was recently made a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising, which he has also chaired, alongside serving as Chair of the International Fundraising Congress.
Julia, originally from the United States, has worked in fundraising in the UK for nearly 10 years. She began her career as a trainee and then Sole Fundraiser at the British Stammering Association, before moving to the Programme Funding team at the National Deaf Children’s Society. She is currently Trusts Programme Manager at Blesma, The Limbless Veterans.
In addition to fundraising for disability charities, she has lived experience, as a person who stammers, is a Trustee of the Trustee of the British Stammering Association and a Stammbassador for Action for Stammering Children. She holds a British Sign Language level one qualification and is always keen to practice more!
Emily is a multi-award winning fundraiser, digital expert and speaker. She is currently Digital Marketing Manager at Cats Protection was named one of Fundraising Magazine’s Top 25 Fundraisers Under 35 in 2018.
She has a background in policy and campaigns, comms and regional fundraising. She is responsible for developing and implementing Cats Protection’s first Digital Fundraising Strategy and leading the phenomenal growth of the channel, into what is now a multi-million pound income stream.
Emily is Chair of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising North East Special Interest Group and is passionate about developing the fundraising sector in the North East, upskilling fundraisers and building a diverse community. She has acted as a trustee and consultant to various charities and is passionate advocate for gender equality and flexible working.
Priya is Direct Marketing and Fundraising Officer at the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC). Her fundraising journey began at The British Asian Trust, having previously worked for a start-up helping migrants settle in the UK and Europe as their South Asian Communities Manager. Priya has volunteered with a range of refugee and migrant charities and has campaigned for equal access to education. Acting off her own experience of barriers in the workplace, Priya started creating workshops for Women of Colour bloggers to help amplify their voice
Mark studied accounting at Aston University, and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. During his time in finance working for some large household names, he engaged in a large amount of voluntary fundraising in the office and beyond. He was the chair of a local fundraising group that raised over half a million pounds, as well as undertaking a number of individual challenges and donating bone marrow to an anonymous child with cancer. Mark joined the fundraising profession full time in January 2017, specialising in Community and Events fundraising, and has a passion for end of life care.
Nicke is currently the EDI Manager for Cancer Research UK where she has worked since November 2018. Prior to joining Cancer Research, she had a career in Housing where she did a variety of roles including Diversity, Inclusion and Wellbeing Lead for a large developing Housing Provider in London where she was responsible for developing and leading the EDI and the Employee Wellbeing programmes.
Nicke also spent six years in internal quality assurance, developing quality management frameworks and audit programmes in the care & support and homelessness sectors.
Mickella has worked in fundraising for over 20 years both in staff and volunteer roles. She spent her early career as an Events Fundraiser at the British Red Cross, specialising in high value and then challenge events. She then took a career break to travel and work in South America and returned to the sector in 2005, this time specialising in Trusts and Grants fundraising.
Her experience covers international development, human rights, youth causes and health. She has held management positions at Y Care International, The Equal Rights Trust and Teenage Cancer Trust. She has also supported the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT) in a voluntary capacity. She is currently in a new strategic role at Mind, the mental health charity, to support the network of local Minds to grow their grants income.
Mickella is a learning and development champion and seeks out roles and projects that give her the scope to use her skills to support others to grow and realise their potential.
Jaz is a voluntary sector leader with over two decades’ worth of senior experience. She has a track record of great working relationships and a thorough understanding of modern challenges faced by the sector.
She is an insightful charity expert who can ask the questions that need asking to find the insights that help create meaningful change.
She runs her own consultancy, working directly with charity clients, collaborating with good people to tackle the challenges that the sector faces.
Lucy is an experienced direct marketing and individual giving manager with over 25 years in the charity sector. In 2017, she joined international development organisation, Practical Action. Lucy is also a trustee director at Action Deafness, an organisation promoting accessibility, independence and equality for deaf and deafblind people.
A proud and passionate fundraiser, Lucy is excited about supporting the Chartered Institute in delivering its objective to make the profession, and the Chartered Institute itself, more equal, diverse and inclusive by addressing barriers to entry and progression within the sector.
Joyce grew up in South London, and has lived and travelled the world, living in Jamaica for 5 years where she was Head of Human Resources Development & Airline Procedures, for Air Jamaica, and set up the Computer Learning Centre in New Kingston. In the UK she headed up Human Resource Development for Europe for the Australian High Commission Department of Immigration and Multi-Culture, Managed Technical Training for UK Power Networks, and provided consultancy for EDF Energy, and Transport for London. Joyce currently lectures for the Open University Business School. She devotes her time to charity, chairing the Black Heroes Foundation, in tribute to her late husband Flip Fraser. Issues of race, equality, opportunity, and empowerment are the DNA of Joyce’s modus operandi.
She incorporated the Black Heroes Foundation as a charity in October 2016. Its vision is “a world where Black Heroes are acknowledged, respected and celebrated”. Their event “The Black Heroes Soul Café” goes into communities engaging, educating, entertaining and empowering, the young, old, homeless and sick. Working across communities, cultures and generations, impacting on people’s health & wellbeing, sense of belonging and empowerment. Joyce was inspired by her late husband’s iconic show “Black Heroes in the Hall of Fame” which re-opened the Hackney Empire 30 years ago, toured the UK, USA and Jamaica, with its last performance in 2007. The show’s strapline was “5,000 years of Black History in one night of theatre!”
Isobel has been a Trustee of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising since July 2017. She has over twenty-five years’ experience in fundraising in the UK and Australia, working within charities and as a consultant specialising in philanthropic fundraising, capital projects, evaluation and capacity building for smaller organisations. She is also a trustee of First Steps (Bath).
Isobel was Secretary of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising South West Regional Group for twenty years and became a Fellow of the Chartered Institute in 2009. She was also a member of the Victoria Executive for the Fundraising Institute of Australia for three years, managing the Mentoring Programme.
