Late last year, the Fundraising Regulator wrapped up its final consultation on the updated Code of Fundraising Practice. With all final submissions made, we are expecting the new Code to be launched in a matter of weeks.

The review period and subsequent consultations have been in-depth, with charities across the sector feeding in their views to help the Regulator develop this new Code, which looks to be more streamlined with a shift to a principles-based approach – allowing for wider interpretation and enable new fundraising approaches.

The new Code will run parallel to the existing Code for a grace period of around six months, allowing fundraising organisations some time to transition over fully – however, with the launch of the new Code just a few weeks away, we would advise members to start alerting their fundraising teams of the upcoming change.

How you can find out what you need to know

To ensure all organisations and fundraisers – whether they are members of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising or not – are informed of the changes and have any questions answered, we have organised two free webinars to help you make sure your work aligns with regulation.

On Wednesday 21 May, you can hear from the Fundraising Regulator about key changes to the Code and what it means for fundraising compliance – sign up here

And on Tuesday 3 June, leading charity law firm Bates Wells will present their overview of the changes to the Code and provide advice on how charities can navigate this and remain compliant under the new framework – sign up here

Both webinars are open to members and non-members.

This is a significant milestone for the sector – and every fundraiser will need to review how they balance risks and opportunities, alongside documenting their decision-making process. As your membership body, we will continue to engage closely with the Regulator – and with you – to help make this transition as smooth as possible for everyone involved in fundraising.
